Length of group: 90 minutes
Number of sessions: Can function as a stand-alone session or as the first of a set of sessions over one month (4 weeks).
General goal: To increase use of positive affirmation and the mindset needed to set goals/make life changes (big or small).
Outcomes measured: Self-report using Post-It’s left in the room at the end of the session.
Warm up: Using Post-It notes, write something (or some things) down that you want to get rid of, something that bothers or annoys you, or that you no longer need. Stick the Post-It(s) on one section of the wall, grouped together.
Enactment: Anyone who feels ready/comfortable can go up to the wall of notes and pick one that they relate to. They could then create a sculpt/moving sculpt (nonverbal, with their own body or by asking permission to use group members) to represent it. Once this sculpt is created, the client could be asked to alter the sculpt to reflect how he or she might move away from this unwanted thing, and who/what he or she might need to do so.
Closure: Using the same Post-It idea, take a moment to write down something (or some things) that stuck with you in the group that you’d like to take with you. Take a few extras for if you think of something you want to remember (a saying, a word, an affirmation) that you can keep with you to remind yourself if you need it. After you’ve done that, take at least one Post-It and write something on it you would like to leave in the room for later for yourself or for other group members who might also need affirmation.
