For aquatic therapist Tanya Salwach, the story of Emma and other children with the same or similar disabilities is one that she has found she can offer some reprieve. Using water, Salwach give these children a chance to move and feel their bodies in a way that they are unable to on land. Most spend the majority of their time in wheelchairs, but Salwach uses her time with each child to help them feel liberated, “In the water, I’m able to dance with her. It’s the only time kids (such as Emma) have a chance to dance because they’re not bound by their wheelchairs.”
